What is Hydrologic Warning?

The mission of the National Hydrologic Warning Council is to promote the acquisition, dissemination and utilization of hydrologic and meteorological data in real-time for the protection of lives, property, infrastructure and resources, and to support the subsequent uses of the data to improve knowledge and management of the environment.

Through the use of technologies and services that collect and disseminate real-time hydrologic data, agencies with critical missions related to floods, hurricanes, droughts, dams and other hydrologic hazards get the information they need for emergency and daily operations, forecasting, and notification of threats to life and property.

The NHWC hosts biennial conferences and workshops to assist local water resource managers and emergency management officials in the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of real-time hydrologic data to protect lives and property.
